Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2020

Deep, inky crimson color. The nose is captivating and saturated, showing profound layers of fruitcake, blackberry preserve, holiday spice, toasted chestnuts, dried orange peel, and rum. Muscular but not heavy on the palate, with dark cherry, black plum, and exotic spices delighting the senses. A linear finish keeps the wine balanced and fresh. So much to give now, but this wine has decades of life ahead of it. Drink now–2060.

Recensioner:

Wine Spectator

97/100

A solid, dense, even slightly chunky Port with baker’s chocolate, black currant, and plum reduction flavors mixed with notes of licorice roots and backed by a hint Black Forest Cake through the grippy finish. Among the more backward wines of the vintage.

Matthew Jukes

19+/20

A super-intense nose with a mass of mulberry pie and accompanying piecrust notes with lashings of sweet spices and amazing depth promise a wine of prodigious luxury. And throughout, there is a dry, raspy, skin-derived layer of tannin that prevents the flavours from ever getting out of hand and too boisterous or intense. There is undoubtedly a lusciousness that works beautifully here, and this might make one think that this is a more forward vintage in terms of drinking, but the cooling tannins put the brakes on. This allows this wine some well-deserved cellar time because it needs at least a decade to compose its exuberant thoughts before it decides in which direction it will travel. (Drink 2030 – 2070)

James Suckling

95/100

Lots of pure fruit with blackberries and violets. Full-bodied with firm and creamy tannins, yet plenty of grip. Long and intense. Lovely balance. Stone and crushed fruit at the end. Small production.
